Welcome back to Morning Cup of Brand Spark, your daily jolt of bold brand strategy that cuts through the noise. I'm Gina Dunn, founder of OG Solutions, and today we're talking about the brutal truth that nobody wants to admit. Most brands feel completely and utterly generic. And here's how to make sure that yours doesn't. So let's spark it up. All right, this is going to sting a little, but I'm saying it because I love you.

Most brands are unforgettable. Most brands are forgettable. Not because the founders suck. Not because the visuals are bad. And not because the offers aren't legit. But because they never made a real choice about who they are, who they're for, and what they stand for. They're trying to be for everyone. They're trying to appeal to more people.

And they're trying to sound professional instead of powerful. And what happens then? They end up blending into a sea of brands that nobody really remembers at all. So here's the spark. Generic brands sound safe. Magnetic brands sound specific. If someone can swap out your name from your competitor's name on a website or Instagram, you don't have a brand. You have a vibe.

And vibes don't sell. Specificity sells. So one of my clients was running a service business, a gorgeous website, really smart offers. But she came to me in a panic. I'm getting traffic, but I'm not getting any conversions. People love my content, but they don't buy a thing. So what's the first thing I asked her? What is the one thing that makes you different from every other brand out there in your sector?

And her answer, well, I really care about my clients. And of course, everyone says that by the way, but caring, that's not a differentiator. Your love for your work is important, but it's not your positioning. So we got specific. We pulled out her secret sauce, the thing that she was doing that was actually different without realizing it. And she didn't see it herself. Then we rebuild her messaging.

all around that uniqueness. Her traffic stayed the same, but her conversions increased. Because now, when people found her, they felt that difference immediately. That's a value proposition. So here's your spark for today. Spark one. Could your brand messaging fit a hundred other brands in your niche? And if yes, you've got some work to do. Spark two.

If you could only be known for one thing, what would it be? Not 10, one. And spark three, when you pitch or introduce yourself, do people lean into you or do their eyes start to glaze over? If they're glazing, you're being too generic, period. Here's the final truth bomb today. Playing safe isn't actually safe anymore. Blending in doesn't protect you.

It starts to erase you. You weren't born to build another copy paste business. You were born to spark something different. Get specific, get bold and get chosen. So that's your spark today. Specific brands win, generic brands disappear. Tomorrow we're digging into how to create a POV that actually sells and not just inspires.

Hit follow so you don't miss a thing. Be bold, be specific, and be unforgettable. Talk soon.

Key takeaways & FAQ

Five things to steal

  1. 01 Trying to appeal to everyone guarantees your brand appeals to no one.
  2. 02 Specificity sells; generic messaging blends into a sea of forgettable brands.
  3. 03 Your passion for clients is not a differentiator — your unique method is.
  4. 04 Rebuild messaging around your secret sauce to convert existing traffic into buyers.
  5. 05 Playing it safe no longer protects your brand — it slowly erases it.

Frequently asked

Most brands feel generic because they never made a deliberate choice about who they are, who they serve, and what they stand for. Instead, they try to appeal to everyone, sound professional rather than powerful, and end up blending into a crowded marketplace where no one can distinguish them from competitors.

Start by identifying the one specific thing you do differently from every other brand in your niche. Many business owners overlook their own secret sauce because it feels natural to them. Once uncovered, rebuild all messaging around that uniqueness so that when potential clients find you, they immediately feel the difference — which is what drives conversions.

A vibe is interchangeable — if a competitor could swap their name into your website or Instagram without anyone noticing, you don't have a brand, you have a vibe. A real brand has specific, distinctive messaging that is impossible to copy-paste onto another business. According to brand strategist Gina Dunn, vibes don't sell, but specificity does.

Yes. When a service business owner rebuilt her messaging around her true differentiator with Gina Dunn's guidance, her website traffic stayed exactly the same but her conversions increased. The reason was that visitors could immediately feel what made her different, turning browsers into buyers without any additional marketing spend or audience growth.
