Hey, welcome back to Morning Cup of Brandspark. Your 10 minute daily hit the bold brand strategy. Hey, welcome back to Morning Cup of Brandspark. Your 10 minute daily hit of bold brand strategy, served hotter than your coffee. I'm Gina Dunn, founder of OG Solutions, and today we're getting into the number one reason your messaging just isn't converting. And no, it's not your price, and no, it's not your platform.

And no, it's not the fact that you haven't posted an Instagram reel today. Let's spark it up.

All right, let's set the scene real quick. You wrote the posts, you updated your website, you spent four hours tweaking that one line on your sales page to be perfect. Maybe you even bought another copywriting template. No judgment here, we've all done it. But still, your contact forms are dry. No one's booking.

There's no applications rolling in, no one's buying your course. And here's the spark for the day. It's not because people don't want what you're selling. It's because your message isn't connecting to the people you want it to. And listen, that doesn't mean that you suck. It means that the bridge between your brilliance and their, holy shit, I need this moment, is broken.

Messaging that doesn't convert usually falls into one of three traps. The first trap. It's way too complicated. If people have to decode your headline like it's the DaVinci code, they're out. Simplicity cells, specific cells. Clear is kind isn't just a Brene Brown bumper sticker. It's a conversion commandment.

So ask yourself, can a stronger, not your, can a stranger, not your business bestie actually understand what you do in under 10 seconds?

Would your mother get it without Googling five acronyms? If not, you're probably confusing curiosity with clarity.

So the second trap, your feature dumping instead of feel pooling.

For example, I offer six coaching calls, access to my signature method, and a lifetime support in my private Slack community. Cool, but nobody buys access to your Slack community. They buy how their life or their business or their self will feel better or work better after working with you. Sell the shift, not the stuff.

If your messaging is all about deliverables but not about their desires, no wonder it's flatlining. And the third trap, you're speaking in industry voice instead of human voice. If you sound like ChatGPT just spat out your entire bio, you're actually going to be invisible. Irony here, this was not lost on me.

as I talk about AI all the time. The brands that win, they sound like humans. They are people that have opinions. Oftentimes they have weird little quirks and they have emotion even when it's messy.

So take a serious gut check here. Does your brand or does your about page sound like a LinkedIn resume? Are your captions more corporate inspirational poster than real talk? If yes, you're not broken, you're just beige and beige doesn't convert. So here's your spark step for today. Pick one thing that you're currently selling.

Try to explain that one thing in one simple, emotional, value-driven sentence. Don't use any buzzwords, don't use any jargon, and no leveraging synergies to drive impact, no features. Talk about emotions. Make it simple, make it human, and make it real. So for example,

Instead of saying, offer strategic brand audits for ambitious women entrepreneurs looking to reposition their market presence, say something like, I help badass women fix the parts of their brand that aren't getting them paid. Which one would you purchase? Which one would you be interested in? Exactly. And that's your spark for today. Tomorrow,

We're going to dig into another lie that's killing your brand. The one where you think your visuals are the problem. Guess what they're not. So hit follow, drop a review if today gave you an aha moment and maybe even slide this episode over to a friend who's out there still selling packages instead of transformations. Your brilliance deserves to be seen clearly. So let's make it happen. Talk soon.

Key takeaways & FAQ

Five things to steal

  1. 01 Unclear messaging breaks the bridge between your offer and buyer action.
  2. 02 Sell the emotional shift your client experiences, not your deliverables list.
  3. 03 Strangers should understand exactly what you do in under ten seconds.
  4. 04 Sounding like a human with opinions converts better than polished corporate language.
  5. 05 One simple, emotional, jargon-free sentence can outperform an entire sales page.

Frequently asked

According to Gina Dunn, non-converting messaging usually falls into three traps: it's too complicated to understand quickly, it lists features instead of communicating emotional benefits, or it sounds like corporate jargon instead of a real human voice. The problem isn't the offer itself — it's that the bridge between your brilliance and the buyer's 'I need this' moment is broken.

Gina recommends picking one thing you're selling and writing one simple, emotional, value-driven sentence about it — no buzzwords, no jargon, no features. The goal is to describe how the client's life or business will feel better after working with you. For example, 'I help badass women fix the parts of their brand that aren't getting them paid' outperforms a feature-heavy positioning statement every time.

Feature dumping is when you list deliverables — like coaching calls, Slack access, or a signature method — instead of communicating the transformation a client will experience. Gina Dunn explains that people don't buy access to a Slack community; they buy how their life or business will feel better after working with you. She calls the alternative 'feel pooling' — selling the shift, not the stuff.

According to Gina Dunn, brands that win sound like humans — they have opinions, quirks, and real emotion even when it's messy. If your about page reads like a LinkedIn resume or your captions sound like corporate inspiration posters, your brand is 'beige,' and beige doesn't convert. Authentic, human-sounding messaging consistently outperforms polished, industry-voice copy.
