Today's Spark is about why real strategy doesn't just look good on paper, it sticks. Let's talk about what makes a brand strategy actually work and what you need. Welcome back to Morning Cup of Brand Spark. Today is Saturday, June 14th, and I'm Gina Dunn, founder of OG Solutions. Today's Spark is about what makes brand strategy actually stick.

And why most of what you see out there, it's just wallpaper. So let's spark it up. Here's the honest truth. Most brand strategies sound amazing in the boardroom, but fall flat in the real world. And you know why that is? Because they're built to impress, not built to connect with humans. Real strategy isn't about jargon or frameworks or endless mood boards.

It's about clarity, relevance, and the courage to say, this is who we are, this is who we're for, and this is why we exist. When a strategy sticks, it feels like the brand's backbone. It's not just the words on the slide. It's the reason someone believes in you and your business. Let's look at some real world examples. Of course you remember Nike's

Just Do It campaign. It wasn't just about shoes. It was about ambition, energy, drive, something much, much bigger. And it stuck because it was more than a tagline. It was a rally cry. And that's the kind of clarity that I'm talking about. A strategy that doesn't just look good, it feels like you, and it moves mountains.

It feels like the first thing you'd say if someone asked you, what do you stand for? And here's the spark. Strategy that sticks doesn't sound fancy. It sounds true. So if you're feeling stuck with your brand right now, ask yourself, what are you willing to stand for, even if it's polarizing? What do you want your brand to be known for in a single sentence?

And what would happen if you actually stopped trying to impress people and started trying to connect with them instead? So here's your spark check today. Spark one, what part of your brand strategy feels like a script and not a statement? Spark two, where have you been over complicating things instead of simplifying them? And spark three,

What's one line you'd put on a billboard if you knew it was all they'd see?

And that's your spark for today. A brand that sticks isn't built in slides, it's built in truth. And if you're ready to strip back the noise and find the line that makes it all click, check out my brand blocker quiz. It'll show you exactly where you're stuck and how you can fix it. The links in the show notes. I'll catch you tomorrow.

Frequently asked

According to Gina Dunn, most brand strategies sound amazing in the boardroom but fall flat in the real world because they're built to impress rather than connect with humans. They rely on jargon, frameworks, and mood boards instead of focusing on clarity, relevance, and the courage to clearly define who the brand is, who it's for, and why it exists.

A strategy that sticks acts as the brand's backbone — it's not just words on a slide but the reason someone believes in the business. It doesn't sound fancy, it sounds true. Gina Dunn uses Nike's 'Just Do It' as an example: it stuck because it was a rally cry built around ambition and drive, not just a product tagline.

Gina Dunn suggests asking three key questions: What are you willing to stand for, even if it's polarizing? What do you want your brand to be known for in a single sentence? And what would happen if you stopped trying to impress people and started trying to connect with them instead? These questions help cut through complexity and find your brand's true core.

Gina Dunn recommends a 'spark check' to identify overcomplexity: examine whether your brand strategy feels like a script rather than a genuine statement, look for areas where you've been overcomplicating instead of simplifying, and test whether you can distill your brand down to one line you'd put on a billboard — if you can't, the strategy likely needs simplifying.
