Hey guys, welcome back to Morning Cup of Brand Spark. Your daily jolt of brand truth served hotter than that overpriced cappuccino that you just got. I'm Gina Dunn, founder of OG Solutions. And today we're talking about the tiny little bio that you think is fine, but it's actually boring the heck out of your audience. Let's spark it up. All right, you know I love you, but we need to have real talk about your bio.
If your Instagram, LinkedIn, about page or speaker profile sounds like it was copy pasted from a manual or chat GPT, we've got a problem. Because here's the spark. Your biography, it's not just an intro. It's that first handshake with your audience. And if that handshake feels limp, corporate or unforgettable, and if that handshake feels limp, corporate or forgettable, people aren't going to lean in. They're gonna click away.
Here's what boring bios usually sound like. Hi, I'm Gina. I'm a results-driven brand strategist with over 25 years of experience helping companies develop innovative marketing solutions. Cool, right? No, that's chat GPT talk. That bio doesn't make anyone feel a thing. It doesn't plant a flag. It doesn't tell me why I should trust you, listen to you or follow you. It's like wallpaper. You are not wallpaper. So let's flip the script. Here's what a great bio does. It plants a strong point of view. It gives a hint at your personality and it gives me a reason to care. And here's an example. Instead of that snooze fest earlier, try something like this.
I'm Gina, chaos queen turned clarity dealer. I'm building brands that slap, not whisper. Strategy first, caffeine fueled, allergic to boring shit. Tell me you're not already more curious about that person. And here's the real talk. People don't hire resumes. They hire energy. They hire alignment.
They hire brands that make them feel something in five seconds flat and get them results. Your bio is not a LinkedIn trophy case. It's a spark plug, make it light something. So here's your strategy spark step for today.
Step one, pull up your bio, seriously. Pause me and go get it right now. And then second, ask yourself these three questions when you're looking at your bio.
Could literally anyone else in my industry say this exact same thing?
Does my bio show my actual personality or is it just a list of my job title and what I do? And number three, would I contact this person after I read this bio or would I just politely keep scrolling my screen? If you're cringing at your own bio right now, that's good because that means your upgrade is already starting.
And that's your spark for today. If you need permission to ditch the beige bio and finally sound like you, consider it granted. Tomorrow, we're tackling something even juicier. Why visibility, guilt, is killing your brand before it even has a chance to shine. Hit follow so you don't miss it. Share this episode with a friend whose bio still says, passionate about XYZ. You know the one.
And remember, your brand isn't built on facts. It's built on feelings and results. Talk soon.

Frequently asked
A bio sounds boring when it reads like it was copy-pasted from a template or generated by AI — full of generic phrases like 'results-driven' and 'innovative solutions.' To fix it, inject a clear point of view, a hint of your actual personality, and a reason for the reader to care. The goal is to make someone feel something within five seconds and want to reach out.
A strong bio should do three things: plant a clear point of view, reveal your personality, and give the reader a reason to care. It should pass the 'anyone else test' — meaning it could not be said by every other person in your industry. It acts as a spark plug, not a credential list, creating an emotional connection that makes someone want to hire or follow you.
Ask yourself three questions: Could anyone else in your industry say the exact same thing? Does your bio show your actual personality or just your job title? And would you contact this person after reading it, or would you keep scrolling? If any answer makes you cringe, your bio needs an upgrade.
Yes. According to brand strategist Gina Dunn, your bio across platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, your about page, or a speaker profile should not read like a corporate manual. Unlike a resume, your bio is a first impression that needs to convey energy and alignment — not just a list of titles and accomplishments — because people hire brands that make them feel something.
