You know that feeling of brand fog? It might not be confusion. It might just be a sign that you're about to break through. In today's spark, I'll reframe what fog actually means in the process of becoming more clear and how you can move through it without burning it all down. Hey there, I'm Gina Dunn, founder and brand strategist at OG Solutions. And this is your morning cup of brand spark. Today is Thursday.

July 3rd. And if your brand's feeling foggy, this one's for you. Let's spark it up. You know what's wild? The number of brilliant founders who think something's wrong with them when the fog sets in. Suddenly, nothing sounds right. You can't write your bio. You hate your own website. Every time you try to talk about what you do, the words just come out fuzzy or flat.

And then the self-doubt always creeps in. Maybe I'm not clear enough. Maybe I'm not ready. But what if that fog is a portal? Let's talk about the mirror. Every founder I've worked with has hit this point. The moment where the old brand no longer fits. But the new one hasn't actually revealed itself yet. It's a middle point. It's not a failure. It's friction.

Your system is rejecting the mask you had, and your soul is whispering, that's not it anymore. And the fog? It's the moment between letting go and letting yourself be seen. This is the sacred part of the process. Not a problem to fix, but a truth to walk through. And on the other side is resonance. Real, grounded, felt from the chest truth.

So let's talk about the shift. So what do you do when you're in this fog?

Gina Dunn02:04

Well, you need to stop grasping for words that aren't yours. You stop trying to sound professional. You stop wasting and waiting until everything is just picture perfect. And instead, you get curious. You say the weird thing. You share the post that's half-baked, but 100 % honestly, truthfully you. And you ask someone that you trust, what do you actually feel when you land on my website?

Because fog by itself just doesn't clear by thinking harder. It clears when you speak your truth out loud, even if it's a little bit messy. So here's your spark check for today. Spark one. What part of your brand feels the most confusing right now? And what's actually underneath that? Spark two. What would happen if you stopped trying to fix the fog and started

listening to the fog instead. And Spark 3. Who do you become when you stop over explaining and just stay what's real? So if your fog... So if this fog is your current state, look, I see you. You're not broken. You're in a transition and that's okay. So that's your spark for today. The fog, doesn't mean that you failed.

It means you're in the middle of becoming and it's a beautiful thing. Let it teach you something true. I'll see you tomorrow. Same cup, different mirror, and a new spark. I'll see you soon.

Frequently asked

According to brand strategist Gina Dunn, brand fog is not a sign that something is wrong with you. It signals that your old brand identity no longer fits, but the new one hasn't revealed itself yet. It's a transitional middle point — a moment between letting go of who you were and allowing yourself to be seen as who you're becoming.

Gina Dunn recommends stopping the search for perfect, professional-sounding words and instead getting curious. Share something honest, even if it's half-baked. Say the weird thing. Ask someone you trust what they actually feel when they land on your website. Brand fog doesn't clear by thinking harder — it clears when you speak your truth out loud, even if it's a little messy.

This is a common experience Gina Dunn describes as brand fog — a phase where nothing sounds right and words feel fuzzy or flat. Rather than indicating unreadiness, it often means the founder's identity has outgrown their current brand. The discomfort is the system rejecting an old mask while the new, more authentic brand identity hasn't fully emerged yet.

Gina Dunn offers three reflection prompts: First, identify what part of your brand feels most confusing and what's underneath that feeling. Second, consider what would happen if you stopped trying to fix the fog and started listening to it instead. Third, ask yourself who you become when you stop over-explaining and simply say what's real.
